PLASMA TREATMENT FOR WEB COATERS
| Plasma treatment is used to add chemical functionality and minimize adsorbed moisture. organic contaminants, and low molecular weight material, on the surface of polymer films prior to metallization. Sigma introduced high speed plasma treatment to the capacitor and converting industries in the early 90s, and it since has become a necessary component for producing high quality metallized films. A highly
effective compact plasma system has been developed that permits retrofitting in most existing web metallizers
with minor modifications. Customized designs can be provided for
special applications.

Sigma is the leading
manufacturer of plasma treaters for high speed vacuum metallizng
applications. Sigma treaters are in operation world wide
servicing film, paper and fabric treatment applications.
A very high intensity
plasma is developed in the reactor that together with various gas plasma chemistries
can produce surface energies
in excess of 60dyn/cm at web speeds in excess of 1000m/min. |
